We know the power of experience and relationships because we've lived it. In the course of our democracy work, we have designed and led hundreds of international experiences across six continents, each crafted with depth, care, and purpose. From facilitating high-level delegations to organizing election monitoring missions, we understand how to create transformative encounters that resonate long after you return home.
Now we are leveraging our unparalleled access and decades of expertise to connect Americans to the promise of democratic ideals and the impact of collective action around the world. Our journeys immerse travelers in the rich cultural heritage of each destination, offering experiences that foster deeper connection—guided by experts who have spent their careers in this work.

Where We Come From
The Democracy Journeys’ team is made up of experts who have led U.S. government-funded democracy programs across the globe. Over the past 20+ years, our parent organization, Democracy International (DI), has partnered with citizens, civil society actors, and governments in more than 80 countries to support democratic progress. Our teams have worked in some of the world’s most complex political environments—advising election commissions, training grassroots activists, facilitating inclusive political dialogue, and strengthening transparent and accountable systems of governance.
Through this work, we’ve built a global network of trusted local partners and developed rare insight into how democracy functions—and falters—across diverse cultural and political contexts.
In 2025, as the United States faces unprecedented threats to its own democratic institutions, DI is also focused on protecting democracy at home—challenging the abuse of executive power through legal action and advocacy.
Democracy Journeys is born out of that same commitment. It reflects our belief that now more than ever, Americans—and fellow travelers from around the world—need meaningful spaces to explore democratic ideas, histories, and communities together.
