From Dictatorship to Democracy · September 12–19, 2027

Welcome, VCWA members! We're so excited to share this journey with you. Over eight days in Tirana and the UNESCO town of Berat, we'll sit down with people who have shaped Albania's path from dictatorship to democracy: former presidents and prime ministers, members of Parliament, journalists and activists. Along the way we'll explore castles and ancient ruins, share long lunches at family wineries, and get to know one of Europe's most surprising and welcoming countries.

The trip at a glance

Dates: Arrive in Tirana Sunday, September 12, 2027; head home Sunday, September 19

Group size: up to 20 travelers

Price: $7,137 per person, double occupancy, or $7,789 for a single room

Reserve your spot

A deposit of $500 per traveler holds your place. We will follow up after we receive your deposit for further traveler details.

Deposit and payment schedule

Your deposit of $500 per traveler is non-refundable. If VCWA and Democracy Journeys cancel the trip due to low enrollment, we'll refund your deposit in full. Half of the remaining balance is due by April 12, 2027, and the rest by June 12, 2027.

We need a minimum number of travelers for the trip to go ahead. We'll email you to confirm by March 31, 2027. Until then, please don't buy airfare or make other nonrefundable plans.
